WHAT IS HOME?
For the 2022 edition of Making Waves, we put out another brief for applicants to respond too. We asked everyone to create pieces in response to a prompt that we felt was particularly important post-lockdowns.
PROMPT
"This year we want you to consider our simple question, what is home to you? Traditionally home is ‘the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household’. When in reality the idea of home is nuanced. Maybe you don’t have family roots in one place, maybe you’ve moved around town or moved to a completely different city. Perhaps home isn’t your home and more of a place like the beach or a local shop. Sometimes, home is a person or a pet. Whatever you believe home is, we want to know."
Once the pieces were made, we asked participants to submit to their relevant age category this year! Age 12 - 29 & 30+.
Once the judging process was complete, we held an exhibition at the HEART centre up in LEEDS on the 9th - 11th September 2022, complete with a live awards ceremony on the Saturday! We also decided to expand out and put on a poetry slam!
We would like to thank everybody who has supported us on this journey so far! We would not exist without your incredible talent! We received over 50 exhibition entrants this year! So, a big congratulations to everyone who made it into the exhibition and won their categories!
