Making Waves was created through the Margate Bookie Young Producers Programme. During Lockdown 2020, Carly Maling, Crow Rudd, Pernela Chea and Louise Devismes - got together to work on a series of three events for the Margate Bookie Literary Festival.

Making Waves was first created as an open call exhibition as part of the Margate Bookies Literary Festival Young Producers Programme in 2021, with the wider aim to help out other young creatives who had also suffered as a result of the pandemic. For its first year, the exhibition was a part of a really successful festival, with 200+ attendees & a reach of 7k + through print and social media - for the Making Waves Exhibition alone.

Due to the success received from the local community, the Making Waves legacy was developed into a full festival in 2022 and is now a print publication with the same mission.
